The Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) and Becker Avionics GmbH started a R&D program for a Low Power Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT), co-funded by DLR and Becker Avionics GmbH

The Communication Engineering Lab (CEL) of the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) and Becker Avionics GmbH recently have signed a cooperation agreement, funded by the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V. (DLR) and Becker Avionics GmbH.

The research and development program for a Low Power Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) based on a Software Defined Radio technology will be on a cutting edge. The program will be finished by the end of 2023.

The project aims to develop a low power consumption Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform enhanced with an innovative Cognitive Radio (CR) concept.

The goal is to investigate Second Generation Beacons (SGB) implementation on a low power SDR, compatible with existing Search and Rescue (SAR) systems, with additional functions improving reliability, detectability, and avoidance of signal collision.
